Luxury fashion house Burberry Group has expanded its board, appointing Danuta Gray as a non-executive director and member of the Remuneration and Nomination Committees.

A seasoned executive with a “strong understanding of consumers and the use of technology gained through her executive career”, she joins on 1 December.

Gray isn’t a fashion insider. She’s currently chair of Direct Line Insurance Group. Until recently, she was also Chair of St Modwen Property and a member of the board at the UK Ministry of Defence. She has previously served on the boards of Aldermore Bank, Old Mutual, Page Group, Paddy Power, and Aer Lingus.

Her appointment comes after the house last month also announced one of its most important appointments for years with news that Versace chief Jonathan Akeroyd will be its new CEO and executive director from April next year.

And earlier this month, Burberry showed it’s making “strong progress”, with its first-half results revealing full-price sales rising in double-digits, helping margins to expand.

In the 26 weeks to 25 September, Burberry saw “an acceleration in performance in countries less impacted by travel restrictions” and it’s “confident of achieving medium-term goals”.
