Six months after Schuh’s long-term buying chief stepped down, the Genesco-owned footwear retailer has named a replacement with Nicola Monachello taking over as Buying Director immediately.

She also joins the existing eight members of the Schuh management team and reports to MD Colin Temple.

Monachello has more than 15 years experience in her specialist footwear area as well as "demonstrable commercial experience leading category growth and driving online consumption,” the company said.

Her most recent position was at New Look where she was responsible for leading the footwear strategy. She has also worked at Faith and Wallis.

Temple said she has a "proven ability with branded and private label footwear [and] combined with her natural skill set as a great people manager [this] gives me a fantastic new member to the Schuh leadership team.”

Her role is certainly a key one and she will oversee the existing sports, kids, fashion and Schuh own-label buying teams “while working closely with key brand partners to redefine the buying strategy.“

She said that the brand has “amazing potential” with a strong culture and a talented team.

The company’s previous Buying Director, David Spencer, left the business with immediate effect this spring after 21 years at the company.
