A symbol of passion, sensuality and strength, the rose is a classic icon and has been coming through strongly not only in the SS17 catwalks, but also as a graphic theme for tattoos, beauty and social media visual curating.

This romantic, dramatic, passionate motif takes on a genderless approach adorning both menswear and womenswear casual and high end looks taping into street goth and a stylised approach to streetwear.
The key is also the experiment with new placements and scales. This graphic direction also signals the ever-rising trend for all things embroidered and patched with thread artwork going from strength to strength.

Beyond current fashion “trends”, the rose has always been a religious symbol within Christianity, Islam and ties in with the resurgence of Spiritual faith inspired art as seen in our report “Like a Prayer”.  The Roman empire also used the Rose to personify the goddess Aphrodite which echoes to this day as a symbol of love and the joys and pain associated with it.
